About Maria T. Jackson

Maria T. Jackson was born and raised in Precinct One, and still lives there. Her mother was a psychologist, her father a sociologist. Dinnertime was spent discussing current events and politics of the day. The discourse was lively and Maria was always encouraged to participate, often serving as the mediator between mom and dad. Her mom will tell you Maria was always fair and there was usually no need for further discussion after she weighed in.

At the age of six, Maria already knew she wanted to be a lawyer and a singer. She went on to accomplish both.

Maria earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a law degree from Texas A & M University. She began her career as a teacher, helping found the original YES Academy in Sunnyside. She was a municipal bond attorney, a municipal judge and for the last 11 years served as a State District Court Felony Judge in Harris County.
